Kaela's Class Celebration

Fruit Cake - Yummy, Yummy

Kaela requested a "fruit cake" to bring in to share with her third grade class this year. I had seen this idea in my Family Fun magazine two years ago, and had attempted it for her first grade class. I am happy to say that this year's attempt was a bigger success. We cut up an entire seedless watermelon into triangles and used that as the base. We added canteloupe ball, and strawberries as a topper and used kiwi to add contrasting color. The kids loved it and even got thirds. I was suprised how much it feed.

Kaela's 9th Birthday

Paws Perfect Party

This year my daughter wanted a dog themed party. This cake was made using the Wilton 3-D lamb pan. You have to shave off the lamb's snout, and build up the legs, tail and ears. The pan instructions say to use a dense cake, but she wanted a marble cake. I had no problems with this cake. It held its shape and filled the mold. I iced the cake with a traditional buttercream. The bone in front is a sugar cookie.

Give Your Doggie a Bone

One of the activities we did for Kaela's birthday party was to have each child decorate their own "doggie treats". I made 60+ bone shaped sugar cookies, and had the kids decorate three treats. I provided icing, melted chocolate, sprinkles, dog bone candies and colored sugars for them to use. Most finished products looked like the ones pictured above. All the kids had a great time decorating their "doggie treats". And of course, the took them home in a doggie bag!
